MMRC Scientists receive CIHR grants to explore expanding midwifery across Canada

McMaster Midwifery Research Centre (MMRC) Scientists Dr. Beth Murray-Davis and Dr. Liz Darling were both successful in securing CIHR funding to explore avenues to expand midwifery scopes of care.

Dr. Beth Murray-Davis, MMRC Director and Associate Professor in the McMaster Midwifery Education Program, received the CIHR Spread/Scale Grant to explore how the Alongside Midwifery-led Unit can strengthen midwifery care in Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Murray-Davis also received the CIHR Planning & Dissemination Grant to investigate ways to prioritize Canadian midwifery research capacity and knowledge translation.

Dr. Liz Darling, MMRC Scientist and Assistant Dean of the McMaster Midwifery Education Program, received a CIHR Planning & Dissemination Grant to understand system-level opportunities to expand roles for midwives in sexual and reproductive healthcare in Canada. Dr. Darling was also successful in receiving an Early Career Investigator Grant to examine the impact of funding expanded midwifery care models in Canada.
